   JOB SUMMARY
   :
   Under the direction of the Parks and Recreation Director, the Recreation Program Coordinator plans, develops, manages and coordinates a wide variety of programs, special events and camps relating to youth and adult activities.   Responsible for supervising part-time staff and volunteers and implementing and conducting diversified programs for all ages including coordinating departmental activities as required.  Responsible for using social media and other forms of communication to educate   residents about park and recreation programs and events. 
   ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 
   Schedule pre-K, youth, adult and senior instructional classes, camps seasonal staff and facilities for programs.
   Research and evaluate program offerings for best practice methods of meeting community needs; Town facilitated partnerships or changing the current offering to best reflect the Department’s Master plan goals.
   In coordination with the Director and other staff, plan, develop and organize a variety of special events, including holiday programs and activities.
   Evaluate existing programs and develops and develop procedure/program innovations and/or services.
   Manage contracts for programs as lead representative between the Town and Contractor.        
   Serve as an active member in community engagement and outreach projects for special events and civic area programming.
   Attends youth association meetings and other district, state and national meetings.
   Establish and maintain rapport with participants, parents, school staff, administrative officials, and other community partners.
   Interview, hire, train and evaluate volunteer staff, part-time and seasonal employees and interns.
   Maintain program within budget limitations; keep accurate records/statistics and completes necessary site paperwork; report all accidents, incidents, and disciplinary actions to supervisor.
   Compile and monitor volunteer records and statistics, participant waivers, attendance records, participant assessments, progress notes, evaluations and individual program plans as needed.
   Develop and implement periodic needs assessments to ensure program needs are met.
   Assists departmental staff with various assessments to ensure program needs are met.
   Assists departmental staff with grant applications and processing. 
   Assists departmental staff with park projects which includes researching, obtaining quotes, working with vendors etc.
   Serves as public contact for department programs.
   Utilize the on-line software for the most precise and accurate scheduling and standings.
   Organize and submit recreation guide and website information, which includes writing class descriptions and developing course content for new classes as needed; write and produce training manuals and rule books for seasonal staff, volunteers and participants.
   Establishes and maintains partnerships with external organizations.
   Develop and manage sponsorships for Town events and programs.
   Research and purchase equipment and supplies needed for programming.
   Research, evaluate and execute best practice methods of marketing to the Indian Trail community and interested participants.
   In coordination with the Parks and Recreation Director and Communications Director, plan, develop and organize a social media campaign for upcoming department objectives.
   Evaluate existing marketing strategies and provide feedback to ensure material is reaching a wide, diverse and inclusive market.
   Assist in the development and use of new trends of marketing like Tik Tock, videos and others.
   Establish a marketing survey to be used in the community to ensure marketing material is being disseminated and read.
   Perform other duties as required. 
   EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
   Bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Recreation and Leisure, Physical Education or a related degree with at least 2-3 years of special events, recreation programming or related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.  Marketing experience is preferred, but not required. Certified Park and Recreation Professional Certification is preferred.    
   KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
   Knowledge of the principles and practices of recreation programming; knowledge of department policies and procedures and current recreation trends; ability to recruit and train volunteers; ability to take the lead on certain assigned projects; ability to think strategically and work as part of a team; Must be able to formulate ideas and communicate them in clearly in an oral, written and concise manner to various levels of management staff and the public; ability to be Customer focused: Dedicated to meet internal and external expectations and requirements; gets information first hand and uses it to make improvement in services; ability to promote a culture of teamwork and synergy through collaboration and communication; ability to generate creative and innovative solutions to manage organizational issues and opportunities and maintain and promote ethics (i.e., honesty, integrity, respect, fairness and caring) in all conduct; ability to use all required safety equipment and follows all safety regulations, policies and procedures
   CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
   Must have a NC or SC driver’s license and the ability to maintain a clean driving record.
   PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
   Work involves walking, talking, hearing, using hands to handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls and to reach with hands and arms. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. The employee may be required to push, pull, lift and/or carry 50 pounds.  Work involves operating a motorized vehicle.   Exposed to occasional cold or inclement weather for outdoor programs and events.
   POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED WORK HOURS:
   Night, weekend and holiday work is required.
