JOB TITLE: RADIO OPERATOR/CLERK, NON-EXEMPT STATUS FOR OVERTIME
JOB SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Police Sergeant receives and processes all telephone calls to the police department. Takes calls for assistance and dispatches police units. Monitors radio networks to receive, relay, and transmit messages. Conducts record checks, maintains radio logs and performs a wide range of routine clerical support activities for departmental personnel.
TYPICAL DUTIES:
Receives and processes all incoming telephone calls to the police department. Obtains essential information including type of emergency and location and dispatches police units as needed. Maintains radio and telephone logs.
Monitors radio network to receive, relay and transmit messages including; requests for wreckers, ambulances, fire department and other ancillary units as needed.
Operates LEIN computer to perform various record checks including but not limited to the following:
Driving Records
Criminal History Checks
Personal Protection Orders
CCW Permits
Stolen Articles-guns
Stolen/Recovered Vehicles
Sex Offender Registry
Operator License Image Files
Warrant Confirmation
Warrant Cancellation
Entry of Selected Felony Warrants
Obtain Prison Records
Verification of all Department LEIN Entries
Missing Persons/Runaways
Area Broadcasts (wanted persons, investigative leads etc.)
License Plate Queries
Maintains a computer data base for the entry, storage and retrieval of police data. Edits police reports for submission to the State of Michigan records division.
Maintains files containing original copies of all police reports/records.
Maintains case folders for detective bureau.
Monitors security system for officers while processing prisoners, prisoners in holding cells, police garage, DPW areas and general offices.
Obtains information from homeowners for vacation and vacant home checks.
Assists with the handling of walk-in traffic which includes, but not limited to:
Taking of complaints
Copying of reports for citizens
Fielding citizens questions
Referrals to other agencies/departments
Bicycle registrations for Township residents
Citizen satisfaction surveys
Preparing police reports for dissemination to insurance companies.
Reconciling insurance money with receipts on a weekly basis.
Liaison for Amber Alert activations
Enters information into CAD (Computer aided dispatch), for service calls including:
Business checks
Traffic stops
Liquor Inspections
Vacation checks
Detectives’ complaint follow-up
Performs clerical and office duties including but not limited to:
Maintains subpoena logs
Maintains liquor license files/inspections
Court materials including
Suspect file check
Fill subpoena requests
Type local ordinance warrants
Maintain ticket files
Submit driving records to court for misdemeanors
Provide local prosecutor with warrant requests prior to submission to court
Submit driving records to court for arraignment dates
Transcribes suspect/witness interview tapes in a timely manner
Readies criminal/non-criminal complaints for assignment to the detective bureau.
Maintains patrol and detective bureau statistics
Maintains Fingerprint database using LiveScan
Maintains the criminal mug-shot files
Maintains and operates standard office equipment including but not limited to typewriters, alarm systems, computers, transcribing equipment, recording system, copy machine and fax machine.
Monitors Senior Citizens call-in program. Calls senior citizens that fail to call in a timely manner.
Interact with other organizations particularly other organizations of the criminal justice system in such a manner to facilitate effective maintenance of police records and files.
Performs a variety of other duties as needed.

EMPLOYMENT QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Possess a High School diploma with telephone, typing, computer skills and transcribing skills.
Experience: This is an entry-level classification with a one-year orientation period.
This person should be highly motivated, outgoing, and have a pleasant disposition.
Other combinations of education and experience, which could provide the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job, should be considered.
For purposes of Employment Standards this classification is “Non-Exempt” for the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
