Public Service Recognition Week – May 1 - 7
   Celebrated the first full week in May since 1985 , Public Service Recognition Week ( PSRW ) is a time set aside to honor those who serve our nation as federal , state , county , local , and tribal government employees . Throughout the nation and the world , public servants use this occasion to educate others about the work they do and why they have chosen public service careers , as well as the many ways government services make life better for all of us .  
   Throughout the week , County staff will be sharing on the County Facebook page why they chose to serve in county government and just some of the things their jobs entail .  
   We invite the public to express their appreciation and recognize the generous contributions of time and talent by public employees and volunteers . Comment boxes will be set up in each government building for your use in sharing positive comments about your interaction with a specific employee or department . A form will also be available on

    . The comments will be shared with employees and a small prize will be given to the person or department with the most comments .
   The County event team has also planned a small treat to show appreciation to all employees each day of Public Service Recognition Week . We want to assure you that no taxpayer dollars are used for any employee events , treats , or prizes .
   County staff will also be taking up a collection to help support the Town of Kilmarnock after the devastating fire which recently occurred in their town . You can also help by making a financial donation to River Counties Community Foundation with “Kilmarnock Fire Relief” in the memo line . Their address is PO Box 54 , White Stone , VA  22578 . The Lancaster Department of Social Services is also accepting donations of gift cards and asks that you write the dollar amount on each card .
   We hope you’ll join us in recognizing the importance of public service workers by taking this opportunity to share some positive ways you’ve been impacted by their work and brightening their day with some much - needed thanks and encouragement .
