Public Safety Radio Technician:
    This position is responsible for the operational maintenance and performance of public safety communications system, this position will perform highly technical work on the VHF simulcast radio system, digital microwave network, recording system and supporting computer systems. Is responsible for the day to day operational maintenance of the Whitman County Public Safety Radio Systems. This includes analyzing system data, detecting and preventing system equipment outages, and scheduling preventive maintenance. Ensures the systems required to maintain site physical security and alarm reporting are operational and monitored. Has the ability to make decisions quickly, efficiently and calmly in emergency situations and adopt an effective course of action with minimal oversight.
   May be required to install, maintain, modify, repair, or remove radio transmitters, radio receivers, microwave transmitters, microwave receivers and associated simulcast equipment, antennas, coaxial cables, dispatch center consoles and related equipment, supporting computer systems, LANs, WANs and related equipment.  Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions in remote locations without supervision and work may involve climbing ladders and lifting heavy objects. Knowledge of principles, practices, terminology and trends in Radio Systems, digital microwave, communications equipment and related computer applications. 
   VHF and Microwave radio propagation principals and modeling tools.
   MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 
   Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in Electrical Communications, Engineering, or Communications Technologies and one-year experience in the operation, maintenance, and application of radio, microwave, and/or computer systems. –or-- Three (3) years of experience in the operation, maintenance, and application of radio, microwave, and/or computer systems  
   SALARY:
    $5,896.00.
