Under the direction of the Aquatics Manager and Assistant Aquatics Manager, the individual in this position will assist with general supervision of lifeguards and general operation of the pool. In the absence of the Manager and Assistant Manager, the Pool Supervisor is in charge of the supervision of lifeguards who are on duty during their schedule. The candidate will also assist in guarding the pool and instructing swim lessons when necessary. This position requires high customer contact both in person and on the phone, in addition to evening and weekend hours.

Requirements
Ability to positively interact with the general public
Knowledge of and ability to demonstrate skills in life guarding, swim lesson instruction, CPR, First Aid, pool maintenance, personnel supervision and public relations.
Ability for task initiatives and completion
Ability to work under minimal supervision
Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
Demonstrate use in equipment such as pool vacuums, cash register, computer or the pool mechanical system
Ability to act quickly and remain calm in emergency situations, analyze and correct facility hazards; and will learn and adhere to the facility emergency procedures
Ability to rescue drowning or troubled patrons
Have an understanding of facility characteristics, rules, policies and procedures
Leadership and public relation skills
Communication skills
Decision making skills
Must be available and flexible to work various hours during the week and weekend
Pre-employment drug screening and background check
Responsibilities
Supervise all lifeguards on duty and report any problems to the Pool Manager
Instruct swim lessons when needed
Posts lifeguards to areas of duty, adds or shifts lifeguards to ensure proper coverage of the pool facility
Assist in the maintenance of the swimming pool, monitoring and maintaining the pool chemicals
Supervise and assist in all cleaning duties and check off each guard at the end of the day/shift
Monitors the performance of staff engaged in life guarding and giving swim lessons
Make daily safety checks of pool equipment, the surrounding area and passes patrons’ concerns on to his/her supervisor.
Prevent accidents through enforcement of policies, rules and regulations governing the conduct of staff and patrons using the pool and the surrounding area
Represents the Westlake Recreation Center in a positive, professional manner to the community
Establish and maintain effective working relationship with residents and visitors contacted in the course of the week
Attends schedules and facilitates sections of staff meetings and in-service trainings
Assist with the on-going staff evaluations and skills audits
Other job duties as assigned
Qualifications
High school graduate or equivalent
Must be at least 18 years of age
At least three years’ experience in life guarding and swim instruction required
Previous aquatics experience and pool maintenance required
Current certification in Lifeguard Training preferred
First Aid and CPR for the Professional Rescuer required
Water Safely Instructor certification
