   Job Class Description
   
   Public Service Aides are non-sworn, unarmed civilian employees with no arrest or enforcement powers.
   Under general supervision, this position is responsible for non-sworn public safety work at Monument Police Department. An employee in this class performs a variety of duties in support of certified law enforcement personnel and other non-emergency, law enforcement activities to allow certified law enforcement personnel to handle higher priority incidents to provide a more efficient and effective response to calls for service to the community.
   
   Distinguishing and Special Characteristics
   
   This position does not require certification from Colorado POST
   nor meet sworn police officer status. This position does not carry a firearm nor have any official police powers.
   This is a full-time (at-will) position
   eligible for benefits provided by the Town of Monument and those required by applicable state and federal laws, which include Worker's Compensation, Medicare, Unemployment Insurance, and FPPA (Fire & Police Pension Association).
   
   Successful performance for
   18 months (about 1 and a half years) may lead to a partial or full Colorado POST Academy sponsorship.
   Essential Function of Position
   
   Assist officers in preliminary crime scene investigations,
   traffic crashes including protecting crime scene from bystanders.
   Interview witnesses and victims, record information, and complete related reports
   .
   Respond to non
   -violent calls for service as dictated by department policy and write related reports.
   Perform traffic control
   duties and non-violent crowd related control.
   Assist the public by providing necessary information to citizens, including referring them to the appropriate government offices and other community resources
   .
   A
   ttend to abandoned vehicles for impound or awaiting tow services.
   Wear a designated uniform, including a hand-held radio.
   Operate hand-held radio and department vehicles.
   Performs p
   roactive and reactive code enforcement pursuant to Town of Monument ordinances.
   Interacts in a courteous and professional manner
   via emails, personal contact and telephone calls with frequently upset callers, complaining parties and alleged violators.
   Develops compliance schedule for alleged violators
   .
   Prepare reports for
   weekly and monthly activities and as requested by command staff.
   Communicates all applicable code information, notifications, and appeal processes in
   verbal and written form to all parties, tenants, owners, contractors, and other
   agencies
   
    representatives
   .
   
   Performs other duties as required,
   including the removal of unpermitted signs or advertisements.
   Maintain inventory of all department equipment
   .
   Order new
   supplies and contact vendors.
   Complete
   s returns at Post Services (USPS / UPS / FEDEX).
   Complete
   s grants submissions for upcoming budget items.
   Submit
   s quotes to venders.
   Handle
   s and our schedules vehicle
   Coordinate
   s radio repairs.
   Qualifications: (

   Knowledge
   
   Map reading and
   learning of zones within the Town of Monument.
   Experience
   with public relations.
   Basic photography techniques (point & shoot photograph)
   .
   Basic fingerprint lifting techniques using tape & basic fingerprint taking techniques using ink pad
   .
   
   Abilities
   
   Learn subjects while training with other officers and F
   ield Training Officer, but not limited to and including criminal investigative principles, practices, and techniques, applicable ordinances in the Town of Monument, County of El Paso, State of Colorado, and familiarization with recent state and federal court decisions.
   Learn to evaluate situations and determine the appropriate action to be
   taken and anticipate situations and problems and initiate effective strategies.
   C
   ommunicate verbally and in writing with a variety of people in various situations, using patience, courtesy, tact, sound judgment, and strategy.
   Give and follow verbal and written instructions.
   Read and interpret technical, law enforcement-related documents.
   Collect, organize, and analyze a variety of information and apply results to police activities.
   Organize and prioritize work.
   Administer basic first aid
   and CPR (Attend a First Aid Course).
   Maintain confidentiality
   .
   Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities to include bending, stretching, pushing, and pulling as needed while in the field
   .
   Maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for
   distinguishing objects at night and communicating with others in person, on radio or telephone.
   
   Skills
   
   Operate Town of Monument vehicles safely in normal situations
   with a valid Colorado driver’s license.
   Operate various equipment, including radio, computers, word processing and other equipment used while performing duties
   Ability to satisfactorily accomplish the Position duties list as attached in Appendix A.
   Requirements
   
   Holder of a valid Colorado driver’s license.
   Have at least o
   ne year of experience involving customer service.
   Public contact experience in law enforcement or a criminal justice setting is preferred
   .
   Ability to analyze maps, construction drawings, blueprints, aerial photos, and other topographical data
   .
   Experience
   and basic understanding of Microsoft Office to include Word, Excel, and Outlook.
   Operate
   standard office equipment.
   Must pass conditional post offer background investigation, motor vehicle record check,
   physical and drug screen.
   Must agree to no medical or recreational use of marijuana while an employee of the Monument Police Department
   .
   Training / Education
   :
   Possession of a high school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED). A Bachelor’s Degree from a certified college or university in any discipline is preferred.
   
   
   License
   : Must possess
   and maintain (or attain within 30 days) a valid Colorado driver’s license.
   
   
   Age
   : Must be at least
   19 years of age.
