   Police Officer – Part-time
   The purpose of this position is to protect life and property and enforce federal and state laws and local ordinances. Successful performance contributes to the safety and well-being of citizens and promotes the efficient and effective operation of the department.
   The incumbent in this position will handle routine, emergency, and/or complex situations within the police department. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: conducting preliminary and/or follow up investigations, and work independently in performing regularly assigned duties under the general orders of a Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain or Chief.
   Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
   Provides security for the City of Norcross Municipal Court.
   Transports prisoners from City Court proceedings.
   Provides security for Mayor and Council meetings.
   Serves criminal arrest warrants, issues uniform citations for traffic and ordinance violations to violators.
   Responds to calls relayed by communications officers for bank runs and bond pickup.
   Provides assistance and backup support to other officers as necessary.
   Provides first aid and CPR to victims as necessary and assists motorists.
   Provides traffic direction as needed for events such as parades, funerals, ball games, and school crossings.
   Testifies in judicial proceedings.
   Completes all required reports and forms.
   Inspects and maintains an assigned patrol car and uniform.
   Patrols the City to detect and deter criminal activity and traffic violations.
   Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:
   High School diploma or GED and one to two years of experience. Associate degree preferred. Equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable.
   Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
   Ability to meet current requirements set forth in the Georgia Mandate Law Enforcement Training Act.
   Must hold or have the ability to obtain a Peace Officer's Standards and Training Act certification and have the ability to become GCIC certified.
   Must be able to work same schedule as City Court and Mayor/Council Meetings.
   Some weekend work as dictated by Special Events.
   Proven ability to effectively and professionally respond to crisis and other emergency
   situations.
   Additional Duties and Responsibilities:
   Any other duties as assigned by Chief, Captain, Lieutenant or Sergeant.

   Knowledge of department policies, procedures, and directives.
    Knowledge of the theory, principles, and practices of delivering police services.
   Knowledge of geography and boundaries of the city.
   Ability to respond rapidly and appropriately to highly stressful situations with a calm demeanor.
   Knowledge of first aid and CPR techniques.
   Ability to establish and maintain an effective relationship with the community, department personnel, other criminal justice agencies, and city employees.
   Skill in the use of firearms, communications equipment, self-defense techniques, and other standard and specialized law enforcement equipment.
   High degree of decision-making skills.
   Skill in observing and preserving evidence.
   Oral communication skills; able to testify in court.
   Skill in report writing and the preparation of police related documents and reports.
   Ability to restrain persons without causing physical harm.
   Communications/Customer Contact:
   Contacts are typically with co-workers, members of the court system, attorneys, judges, medical personnel, members of the general public, and law enforcement officers from other agencies.
   Contacts are typically to exchange information, provide services, justify matters, interview persons, and resolve problems.
   Scope and Impact:
   Job has recurring work situations involving high degrees of discretion. The need for accuracy and effective utilization of accepted programs and routines is high. Errors in judgment will waste resources and adversely impact performance. Incumbent operates independently but work is verified. Content of work priorities are determined by supervision.
   Working Conditions:

   Frequently required to use hands and fingers to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk and hear.
   Work may be performed indoors, outdoors and in a vehicle.

   The employee may be exposed to occasional inclement weather, infectious diseases, and/or irritating chemicals.
   Must occasionally lift light or heavy objects, exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
   Must be able to effectively use equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, distinguish between shades of color and use the physical force necessary to arrest and/or restrain a person.
   Incumbents may be subjected to fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, extreme stress, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, travel, blood, and bodily fluids.
   The work may require the use of protective equipment such as masks or gloves.
   Job Type: Part-time
   Starting Pay $19.66 Hourly (minimum) up to 25.56 Hourly (midpoint) depending upon qualifications/experience.
