Since 1982 , the Mount Prospect Police Department has annually convened an Awards Committee , comprised of Supervisors , Patrol Officers and Investigators to select the department’s “Officer of the Year” . Additionally , the department also recognizes the officers that the Awards Com......mittee determined were in final contention for the “Officer of the Year” as “Runners - Up” . In order to be considered for the award , the officers must have consistently shown exceptional performance during the preceding 12 - month rating period . The officer’s ability to perform and conform to the standards of a professional police officer is pertinent to being nominated for Officer of the Year .
In 2020 , the police department established the George E . Whittenberg Community Service Award , named after the Village’s second Chief of Police who served the Village of Mount Prospect community for 33 years and was very community service oriented . The annual recipient of this award is a member of the Department who demonstrates exemplary service to the community throughout the year , above and beyond their assigned duties , reflecting positively upon the member and the department as a whole .
The 2021 award recipients were honored on Friday , August 26 , 2022 .
2021 “OFFICER OF THE YEAR”
OFFICER WILLIAM WAGNER
Officer William Wagner is a four year member of the Mount Prospect Police Department and is currently assigned to the Investigations Section .
In making the selection , the Committee considered Officer Wagner’s overall performance during the rating period . The Committee recognized his positive attitude , reliability , teamwork , initiative , and professional work ethic , as well as his unwavering commitment to removing illegal weapons from the community , as just a few of the factors leading to his selection . The Committee recognized Officer Wagner’s overall effort and involvement as an integral part of several noteworthy investigations and arrests during 2021 . Officer Wagner located firearms that were possessed illegally by occupants in vehicles on two separate occasions while conducting traffic stops on vehicles driving through the community . One of the firearms located by Officer Wagner was reported stolen from another community and possessed by a convicted felon . During the award period , Officer Wagner received two Departmental Commendations . Officer Wagner was the “Officer of the Quarter” for the first quarter in 2021 .
OFFICER OF THE YEAR/RUNNERS - UP ( 2 )
OFFICER KEVIN FFRENCH
Officer Kevin Ffrench is a three year veteran of the Mount Prospect Police Department and is currently assigned to the Patrol Section .
During the award period , Officer Ffrench received one Departmental Commendation . The Selection Committee cited Officer Ffrench’s outstanding daily performance and attention to duty during the award - rating period , which led to his selection as Runner - up .
INVESTIGATOR ANDREA KANE
Investigator Andrea Kane is a fourteen year veteran of the Mount Prospect Police Department and is currently assigned to the Investigative Section .
During the award period , Investigator Kane received one Honorable Mention . The Selection Committee cited Investigator Kane’s outstanding daily performance and attention to duty during the award - rating period , which led to her selection as Runner - up .
2021 GEORGE WHITTENBERG AWARD RECIPIENT
OFFICER STEVAN SPARR
Officer Stevan Sparr is a twenty - two year member of the Mount Prospect Police Department and is currently assigned to the Patrol Section .
In making the selection , the Committee considered Officer Sparr’s positive demeanor , his continued commitment to the community and his great balance between work and the community during the rating period . The Committee recognized Officer Sparr’s participation in the Mount Prospect Lost and Found Pets social media site , his off - duty commitment to shelter and re - home lost and found pets and his expertise in assisting fellow officers and residents in animal laws and treatment for abused and neglected animals , as some of the reasons for his selection . During the award period , Officer Sparr also received one Honorable Mention .
