The individual is responsible for work involving the application of professional planning knowledge and skills as they pertain to municipal planning issues.
Supervision Received: Director of Planning and Development, Supervising Planner, Principal Planner
Supervision Exercised: Clerk II
Examples of General Duties and Responsibilities:
Assists with day to day operations of the Planning Department.
Responsible for technical research and information to property owners or interested parties on topics including but not limited to the project review process, history of past development projects, conformity of properties to existing zoning
Responsible for “first level” plan review including but not limited to completeness
Assist in the review of building plans and permit applications
Preform routine office tasks including data entry, file management, copying, scanning, and answering telephone
Prepare staff reports and recommendations on projects of limited complexity, such as special use permits and variances under the guidance of the Planning Director or Supervising Planner
Provides assistance and information to staff and the public in the administration of specific planning program areas, ordinances, or development projects
Develops and maintains automated tracking systems, hard copy files and records
Prepares maps, charts, tables and gathers, interprets, and prepares data for studies, reports, and recommendations
Attends public meetings, assists other planning staff as appropriate, performs routine office tasks related to such meetings including but not limited to data entry, file management, drafting of agendas and meeting minutes and copying
Assists in the amendments to the Transportation Improvement Program, as necessary
Responsible for the preparation of the town Community Development Block Grant under the guidance of the Planning Director or designated staff
Assists in the research for and preparation of zoning certificates
Assists in the professional planning tasks related to the town’s long-range planning programs including but not limited to the comprehensive community plan, grant applications, and the work priorities of the town’s boards and commissions.
Responsible for the management and review of projects of limited complexity (commercial, mixed use, residential)
Assist other staff members as necessary
Conduct field work when necessary
Perform other such duties as may be assigned and as are consistent with this position
