   Job Title:Tax/Tag Clerk
   Department:Treasurer
   FLSA Status:Non Exempt

   SUMMARY
   Under the supervision of the County Treasurer, the Tax/Tag Clerk is a nonexempt position under the FLSA that performs a variety of duties following established methods and procedures. The employee in this position assists the public with collecting taxes and processing applications for titles on vehicles, selling vehicle tags, collecting fees for tags and vehicle renewals. The Tax/Tag Clerk also collects ad valorem taxes; renews driver’s licenses; receipts in money from all county departments.
   SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
   (NONE)
   ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
   Answers questions, research’s information and waits on customers applying for motor vehicle titles and registrations, renewals, special tags, handicap placards, paying ad valorem taxes and driver’s license.
   Provides information regarding estimates on new vehicle purchases and ad valorem taxes.
   Counts and handles money, receipts money from customers, other county departments and balances cash in drawers often in large quantities.
   Maintains money in vault and change drawer and replenish as needed.
   Prepares the daily lien holder report and adds new lien holders as needed.
   Responds to insufficient checks by following up with the appropriate authority.
   Monitors daily sales taxes’, prepares monthly sales tax report and submits electronically to the state; monitors daily driver’s license and motor vehicle money and prepares weekly report and submits electronically to the state.
   Maintains a list of mortgage companies requesting tax statements and regularly updates.
   Responds to routine inquiries from telephone callers and visitors. Directs information to other departments if necessary and reviews documents for accuracy, completeness and proper signatures.
   Sells new motor vehicle tags and receipts money.
   Uses software to produce correspondence, reports, tables, schedules. Assembles a variety of routine reports and tables.
   Performs other routine administrative duties such as data entry, refunds, daily deposits, mailing, balance books, filing, typing correspondence, prepares the mail , records management and driver’s license.
   Operates computer terminal to input and retrieve data; calculator and credit card machines.
   Operates office machines such as computer, calculator, postage machine, scanners and copiers.
   Other duties as deemed necessary or as required.

   KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
   Knowledge of department policies, practices and operations. Oral communication skills required to perform routine administrative duties such as responding to inquiries from telephone callers or visitors for vehicles, taxes and driver’s licenses.
   Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients and other employees of the organization.
   Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
   Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
   EXPERIENCE AND/OR EDUCATION
   Six to twelve months related experience and/or training; or high school diploma or general education degree (GED); or equivalent combination of education and experience.
