What is a typical day for the Planning Manager?
Assists the Director in implementing policies, procedures and practices to improve operational efficiency.
Supervises, mentors, and evaluates staff in the department.
Reviews levels of service and works to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
Monitors department budget expenditures for operation and special projects.
Works directly with planners to update and improve the land development regulations and comprehensive plan to meet strategic goals of the City.
JOB SUMMARY
Performs work of considerable difficulty directing, managing and reviewing the activities of the Planning and Zoning Division. The employee has considerable latitude in administering a complex and/or sensitive area of responsibility. Responsibilities include assisting in the preparation and monitoring of the division budget, establishing division goals, administering personnel policies, and formulating policies and procedures; creating and interpreting land development regulations; preparing agendas for advisory boards; presenting to boards, commissions, stakeholders, and citizen groups; supervises the functions of the Planning and Zoning Division.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Principles and practices of land use planning. Statistical principles, practices, and techniques.
Principles and practices of management, administration and supervision.
Leadership principles.
Planning best-practices/concepts in sustainability, floodplain management, environmental impacts, sea-level rise, or multi-modal transportation.
