Mayor Pat McCabe has been appointed to Chair the Cities of the Large First Class Advisory Council of the Arkansas Municipal League ( AML ) .
   AML Executive Director Mark Hayes called this a “very important position in the League” in his appointment letter to McCabe . Included in the letter were the responsibilities of the positon: chairing the Cities of the Large First Class Advisory Council meetings , attending Executive Committee meetings as a representative of the Council and serving as a member of the Steering Committee of the Municipal Legal Defense Program .
   “Vitally important to have the Mayor of Hot Springs serve on the Executive Committee of the Arkansas Municipal League as that is the primary policy - making arm of the municipal league . Adding to that , being the Chair of the Cities of the Large First Class Advisory Council puts Hot Springs in a strategic position of having a ‘say so’ on policies being recommended to the Executive Committee , ” said McCabe . “Only through years of working with my peers across the state and the staff at the municipal league do these appointments happen . As a result , Hot Springs will have a seat at the table . ”
   McCabe served as city director for two terms during the late 80’s early 90’s . He returned to the Hot Springs Board of Directors in the fall of 2009 to complete the unexpired term of a former city director and prevailed in his re - election bid for the same position in the 2010 general election . On March 25 , 2017 , he was appointed mayor to fill the unexpired term for the previous mayor . In 2018 , he won the mayoral election to serve a four - year term . McCabe serves as president and CEO of Levi Hospital , a position he has held since 1987 . He has served in numerous volunteer capacities that include the Hot Springs Documentary Film Institute , United Way of the Ouachitas , Retirement Development Authority and the Inaugural Board for Leadership Hot Springs .  
   The Arkansas Municipal League is a service and advocacy organization for the municipalities of Arkansas .
