   PROCLAMATION from Fred Camillo , First Selectman
    
   WHEREAS ,  
   Approximately 800 people die each year in boating - related accidents in the U . S . ; nearly 80% of these fatalities are caused by drowning; and
   WHEREAS ,  
   The vast majority of these accidents is caused by human error or poor judgment and not by the boat , equipment , or environmental factors; and
   WHEREAS
    ,
    A significant number of boaters who lose their lives by drowning each year would be alive today had they worn their life jackets; and
   WHEREAS ,  
   Modern life jackets are more comfortable , more attractive , and more wearable than styles of years past and deserve a fresh look by today ' s boating public .
   NOW , THEREFORE , l , Fred Camillo , FIRST SELECTMAN OF THE TOWN OF GREENWICH
    ,  
   do hereby proclaim May 21 - 27 , 2022 as
   North American Safe Boating Week
   in the Town of Greenwich and encourage all boaters to Boat Smart from the Start by wearing a life jacket and practicing safe boating habits .

PROCLAMATION from Fred Camillo , First Selectman   WHEREAS , violence prevention is a core function of a civil society and everyone’s desire is to live in a safe , healthy , hopeful , and free community; and WHEREAS , in 2021 , there were 238 gun deaths in the state of Connecticut , and beyond the loss of life and the pain and suffering of survivors , there are countless family members and friends whose lives are forever scarred; and WHEREAS , as a result of the tragic shooting of Hadiya Pendleton in January 2013 at age 15 , a group of Hadiya’s friends asked their classmates to commemorate her life by wearing orange to symbolize the value of human life; and WHEREAS ,   support for the constitutional rights of law - abiding citizens and the interests of public safety are mutually beneficial goals that protect the freedom and security of all Greenwich residents; and WHEREAS ,   the Town of Greenwich and its leadership is committed to protecting the rights of its citizens while remembering the lives lost from senseless violence including those in Buffalo , NY and in Uvalde , Texas; and NOW , THEREFORE , l , Fred Camillo , FIRST SELECTMAN OF THE TOWN OF GREENWICH , do hereby proclaim Thursday , June 2 , 2022 as National Gun Violence Awareness Day in the Town of Greenwich and encourage all residents to honor and remember all victims and survivors of gun violence .
