Position Summary
This position is responsible for performing manual and semi
-
skilled work in the cleaning, maintenance, and repair of city streets, parks, right-of-ways, and city facilities.
Work involves manual labor and the operation of a variety of motorized equipment. Work is performed initially under close supervision, but the employee works more independently as duties become more repetitive and with development of skills in an assigned area.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
The following duties, responsibilities and expectations are not necessarily limited to the following, and are not enumerated in any particular order or priority. At any particular time the frequency or duration with which one or more of the following specific duties is performed may vary widely.
Maintains building equipment and facilities; performs semi-skilled plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and masonry work, tree trimming, chipping brush, concrete repair, curbs, sidewalks, filling pot holes, crack sealing, sewer work, grass cutting and landscaping, assist in the maintenance of storm drains, stripes streets and cross walks
Picks up and hauls trash and debris from assigned areas; loads and unloads trucks; sweeps indoor and paved outdoor areas
Assists with snow removal, operates trucks with snow plow and salt spreader, pickup and dump truck, tractors, lawn care equipment and other motorized equipment as assigned
Prioritizes work and coordinates with staff to accomplish tasks.
Paints city buildings, install traffic and other city signs, prepares and sets up athletic fields, assists with recreation programs and events
Assists in the servicing and minor repair of facilities and equipment
Maintains tools in proper working condition; maintains proper level of supplies
Sets up and takes down rooms for renters; ensures rental equipment is in working order, cleaned and returned after each use
Maintains ice condition which includes edging, resurfacing and painting the ice surface
Cleans and removes debris from rink lobby, rink area, meeting rooms, rest rooms, locker rooms, offices, bleachers, building grounds, parking lots, walls, windows, floors and other areas as assigned
Performs related work as required by Public Works Superintendent
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of tools, materials, methods, and practices used in ice, park and vehicle maintenance and repair
Skill in the operation of hand and power tools and some motorized equipment
Ability to learn building maintenance and repair methods
Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods under adverse conditions
Ability to lift and carry objects up to 50 pounds
Ability to follow oral and written instructions
Ability to establish effective working relationships with fellow employees, city officials and the general public
Ability to work in normal to extreme weather conditions
Minimum Requirements – Education, Certification, and Experience
Graduation from a general or technical high school, or GED
Some experience in the performance of manual labor or semi-skilled maintenance and repair work; or any equivalent combination of training and experience
Able to be insured through City’s insurance carrier
Preferred Qualifications – Education, Certification, and Experience
Vocational Coursework
Valid Missouri Class ‘B’ Commercial Driver’s License within 6 months of hire
