The Village of Libertyville, IL (pop. 20,800), a northern suburb of Chicago, is seeking to fill a full-time opening for a Maintenance Technician in the Public Works Department. POSITION SUMMARY: Under general supervision, operates a variety of vehicles and equipment to maintain the Village’s streets, roadway signage, parks, facilities, storm sewer mains, sanitary sewer mains, water mains and other infrastructure. Performs other duties as assigned. The Public Works Maintenance Technician is a single class position with responsibility for operating various vehicles and equipment and performs semi-skilled tasks in the maintenance of the Village’s infrastructure. This position has no supervisory responsibility. This position is a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local No. 150.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Receives work orders or project assignment from Supervisor, assembles and prepares equipment and tools necessary to complete assignment. Establishes a safe work area and coordinates activities with employees, contractors or the general public as necessary. Operates a variety of maintenance equipment not limited to: dump trucks, backhoes, loaders, sewer cleaning equipment, street sweeper, chipper, mowers and leaf blowing machines. Perform duties associated with equipment such as paving, patching, painting and snow/ice removal. Installs and replaces street signs, performs pavement repair, maintaining and repairing Village buildings, landscaping tasks, parks maintenance, repairing water main breaks, rebuilding storm inlets and sanitary manholes. Inspects, maintains and repairs department equipment. Responds to emergency calls outside of normal work hours as needed, which includes, but not limited to ice control and snow removal operations, storm damage, critical utility/infrastructure repairs and severe weather and flooding events. Observes standard operating procedures and safety practices, supports and actively promotes the Village’s safety programs.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Knowledge of:
Practices and procedures for safe operations of materials, machinery, vehicles and equipment necessary for street, sewer, parks and building maintenance
Occupational hazards and safety precautions applicable for public works maintenance.
Skilsl in:
Reading and following work orders
Use of hand and power tools
Following safety precautions and recognizing hazards
Communicating orally and in writing
Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
REQUIRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS:
High School diploma, or equivalent.
Valid Class "B" Commercial Driver's License.

There is frequent need to stand, stoop, walk, climb, kneel, bend, balance, and lift heavy objects (up to 100 lbs. with assistance) and perform other similar actions during the course of the workday.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed in office, operations facility and field settings.
SALARY:
Starting Salary is $50,276.88. Full salary Range for this position is $50,276.88 - $71,039.92.
