CLASSIFICATION SUMMARY
A Library Clerk performs a variety of
clerical and recordkeeping tasks in a library setting and may required to work on the weekends and in the evenings.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Checks in and checks out library materials, issues library cards, collects fines, maintains established records and performs other tasks related to the service desk function.
Inputs data into computer terminal and prints reports, lists and other documents.
Performs general office duties, i.e., typing/word processing, filing, recordkeeping, receiving and verifying shipments, etc.
Locates, arranges, sorts, shelves and distributes library books and materials and make minor repairs as necessary.
Responds promptly and courteously to inquiries from the general public regarding circulation matters as well as regarding the use of computers, mobile devices and readers' advisory.
Operates and makes minor adjustments to various types of library and office equipment.
Assists in cataloging activities and interlibrary loans.
Assists with library programs and special events and in the preparation and set up of displays.
Works collaboratively with colleagues to support the library's goals and objectives as well as the goals and missions of the Village.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma/GED.
Minimum of one year of clerical work experience, preferably in a public setting.
Evidence of effective oral and written communications skills.
Ability to work with diverse groups and conduct oneself in the best interests of library patrons, while interacting in a respectful and customer-oriented manner.
Knowledge of current computing technologies and software applications appropriate to the position's job responsibilities.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Tasks involve the ability to stand, bend and kneel and may require standing, sitting and walking for extended periods of time. In addition, duties may involve the ability to lift, push or handle library materials weighing up to 35 pounds.
ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS
Work is performed in usual office conditions with rare exposure to disagreeable environmental factors.
