   DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF CLASS:
   Performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks usually manual, in performing the maintenance of city owned or occupied buildings.
   SUPERVISION RECEIVED: 
   Supervised by a Public Works Supervisor for Buildings & Grounds.
   SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

   ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
   The essential job duties below are equally of importance and must be performed in order for the incumbent to be successful.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
   Sweep, mop, scrub, wax, strip and polish floors; vacuum and shampoo carpets.
   Light landscaping.
   Dust and polish furniture, woodwork fixtures and equipment.
   Clean desks, tables and countertops; and wash windows and walls.
   Empty and clean trash receptacles.
   Clean and disinfect restrooms; replenish and maintain restroom supplies.
   Move and arrange furniture and equipment; set up rooms for special meetings or events; and monitor events to ensure internal/external customer satisfaction.
   Lock and unlock doors; open and close City buildings.
   Performs light/routine maintenance.
   Inspect and clean building grounds and common areas; pick up litter and other debris.
   Assist with regulating building ventilation and temperature in accordance with established policies.
   Maintain custodial supplies and equipment; stock inventory of maintenance supplies and materials in assigned areas.
   Identify and report the need for repairs.
   Shovel snow and operate snow blower and salt spreader.
   Snow plow parking lots and alley ways.
   Performs room set ups and take downs for meetings and special events.
   Ability to change light bulbs and ballast.

   KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
   The knowledge, skills and abilities below are needed in order to successfully perform the essential job duties. 
   Base knowledge of work rules and safety regulations.
   Base knowledge of safety standards and precautions pertaining to the operation of commercial custodial equipment (e.g. vacuum, floor scrubber, etc) and basic snow removal equipment is required.
   Ability to think quickly, maintain self-control, and adapt to changing situations is also an important skill set.  Qualified applicants should also be able to demonstrate the ability to effectively solve problems and exercise good judgment.
   The ability to develop positive working relationships with the general public, contractors, and City staff is a critical skill set.
   Must possess the ability to comprehend, retain, and apply City rules and procedure manuals, including any pertinent Federal, State, or local laws.
   Ability to take control of situations and work independently in the absence of supervision.
   Ability to adhere to schedules for cleaning of assigned buildings and facilities; must also possess ability to effectively plan work and establish priorities.
   Ability to communicate effectively with coworkers and the general public in both written and verbal form.
   Intermediate skills in the operation of computers and related software is required.
   PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:

   Maintain good physical condition that allows individual to perform strenuous tasks and a willingness to work outside in all kinds of weather.
   Frequently perform manual labor with varying degrees of physical exertion.
   May be frequently required to stoop, kneel, sit, stand, bend, reach, climb, walk, lift and/or move, grasp, push/pull, talk, hear/listen, see/observe, climb ladders and stairs, drive, and various repetitive motions.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance and peripheral vision; depth perception; and the ability to adjust focus.  Employee occasionally works around vibrations and noise, heights, and is exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals most typically associated with custodial work. 
   Frequently required to lift, push or pull in excess of eighty pounds.  
   Occasionally required to lift, push or pull in excess of one hundred pounds.
   Occasionally may be working in awkward, difficult and or unbalanced conditions.
   Work both indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions.
   PUBLIC CONTACT:
   The employee has regular contact with other City employees and the general public to provide assistance and answer any questions. 
   EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
   Education:
      
   Possession of a high school diploma or G.E.D. 
   Experience:
      
   Entry Level.  Previous custodial experience in an office, commercial, or industrial setting and elementary knowledge of the methods, materials and equipment used in office cleaning operations is preferred.
   Ability to:
   Have and maintain a telephone number.
   Work a schedule that varies according to;
   Work Load.
   Emergency Calls.
   Weather conditions that require overtime work.
   Ability to learn quickly and work with minimum amount of supervision.
   CONDITIONS OF CONTINUED EMPLOYMENT:
   All of the following are required:
   Maintain valid driver’s license.
   Maintain telephone in place of residence.
   Complete six-month probationary period.
