POSITION SUMMARY
This position will perform a variety of skilled and semi-skilled duties associated with the operation of road construction equipment and the repair, maintenance, and construction of County roads, bridges, and right-of-ways. Performs mechanical repairs on equipment as required.
Some of the essential function of this position include but are not limited to, the following:
Operates a road grader to spread gravel across road surfaces to fill holes and maintain proper road crown; pulls shoulders to remove weeds and loose gravel; cuts and cleans ditches to ensure proper drainage; shoulders gravel onto blacktop to maintain required slope and width of road shoulder(s); and cleans areas surrounding culvert ends.
Operates rollers to pack gravel and chip /seal; lays down hot oil for chip and seal; operates double axle and tractor-trailer trucks to construct, repair, and maintain roads; drives dump trucks to haul sand, hot oil, gravel, asphalt-mix for road repair, or to remove dirt, trash, and snow for disposal; and operates trucks with snowplow blade to plow snow and sand roads as needed.
Plows snow from roads as required and spreads gravel base and oil for road repair and/or construction; operates bulldozer in a variety of road repair and construction duties; and prepares rock material for crushing with bulldozer.
Maintains, repairs, or replaces bridges and bridge structures; repairs or replaces damaged fences, culverts, signposts, and/or mailbox posts.
Records vehicle maintenance and usage and keeps logs to record fuel and oil consumption, machine hours, and projects, etc.
Performs a variety of other duties related to road maintenance including patching roadways with asphalt including preparation of damaged areas, shoveling asphalt, leveling, raking, and tamping of asphalt; installing, erecting, or replacing roadway signs; cleaning and removing debris from culverts, hauling, and laying gravel.
Performs other related duties as required and assigned.
Candidates must possess or be able to obtain a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). Pre-employment and random drug tests are also mandatory.
