Reporting to the Manager of Fleet and Facilities, the Heavy Duty Mechanic is required to perform skilled tasks in the mechanical repair and maintenance of diesel and gas engines and heavy-duty construction equipment. The Heavy Duty Mechanic needs to have the ability to troubleshoot major and minor mechanical problems, as well as repair and adjust all necessary mechanical components. Work assignments will be received in the form of written and electronic work orders, but the employee is expected to determine the nature and extent of needed repairs.

Responsibilities
Construct, install, and repair equipment and machinery
Diagnose equipment problems and determine repairs needed
Demonstrate continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, and
streamline work processes
Perform daily safety and maintenance checks
Trouble shoot and problem solve
Provide purchasing recommendations for equipment
Test repaired equipment for proper performance
Clean, lubricate and perform other maintenance work
Adhere to workplace safety policies, regulations, and compliances
Keeping logs and records as required
Maintain good relations with the public
Work well in both a team environment and independently
Perform other duties as required
Education and Work Experience
Valid Journeyman Heavy Duty Mechanic Certification in the province of Alberta with Red Seal required
Criminal record check and drivers abstract required
Valid Alberta Vehicle Inspection Certificate is considered an asset
Welding experience is considered an asset
Valid class 3 with Air endorsement is considered an asset
Minimum of 7 years’ experience as a Heavy Duty Mechanic also able to provide automotive and small engine service and repair

Ability to read and understand service manuals
Ability to plan and work sequentially
Demonstrated working knowledge of heavy duty and automotive diagnostics
Considerable knowledge of fleet procedures and regulations applicable to the work performed
Work well in a team environment with the ability to use independent judgment
Excellent interpersonal skills with a focus on achieving goals through problem solving and collaboration
