The U . S . Department of Housing and Urban Development ( HUD ) just gave $60 . 3 million to 16 communities , including four rural areas , to help end youth homelessness . The funding will go towards various housing programs like rapid rehousing , permanent supportive housing , and transitional housing . Secretary Marcia L . Fudge emphasized the importance of providing homeless youth with safe and stable housing . HUD worked closely with young people who have experienced homelessness to ensure that the funding addresses their needs . The goal is to create community - driven solutions that prioritize vulnerable youth , including BIPOC , LGBTQIA+ , and differently abled individuals . All YHDP communities need to set up Youth Action Boards , where young people with personal experience will lead the community ' s efforts to create , implement , and enhance programs and policies to put an end to youth homelessness . Along with these awards , HUD has given YHDP funding to 110 communities so far , which amounts to a $440 million investment to prevent and end youth homelessness . Today , HUD is announcing funding awards to the following communities: State , Recipient , Rural , CoC Number , and Award Amount .
