Hey , guess what? The U . S . Department of Housing and Urban Development ( HUD ) just announced that they have $50 million up for grabs for the Housing Opportunities for Persons With AIDS ( HOPWA ) program . This money is available to local governments , states , and nonprofit organizations through the HOPWA: Housing Interventions ( HINT ) to End the HIV Epidemic program . They believe that having a stable place to live is a game - changer for people with HIV/AIDS , so they want to help out . If you ' re interested , you can check out the details in HUD ' s Notice of Funding Opportunity ( NOFO ) here . Secretary Marcia L . Fudge even said that at HUD , they understand how important it is for people with HIV to have safe and stable housing to take care of their health . Nobody wants to be stressing about finding a decent place to live when they ' re dealing with health issues . This funding will go towards providing housing assistance and supportive services for low - income people with HIV and their families . They also want to improve coordination and planning , as well as grants management and administration . They ' re looking for projects that align with their initiatives to end the HIV epidemic and see housing as a key part of the solution . They want projects that are innovative and incorporate Housing First principles , community - level coordination , and cultural humility in providing housing and services . They also want to make sure that underserved communities are included and that equity is advanced . Projects that get funded need to achieve six objectives , like using the Housing First approach , aligning with local initiatives , improving coordination among housing and service providers , collecting quality data , and ensuring equitable access and cultural humility . They want approaches that are sustainable and effective , so they can continue even after the funded project is done . Hey , just wanted to let you know that HUD is gonna have a pre - application webcast for those interested in applying for the HOPWA: Housing Interventions ( HINT ) to End the HIV Epidemic funding . They ' ll cover all the info in the NOFO . If you want more details about the webcast , you can check out the HUD . gov HOPWA mailing list . Just go to their subscription page to sign up . Oh , and don ' t forget , applications for the HOPWA: Housing Interventions ( HINT ) to End the HIV Epidemic funding opportunity are due by January 31 , 2024 . This program is pretty cool because it ' s the only Federal program that focuses on helping people with HIV/AIDS and their families find housing and support . They work with nonprofits and housing agencies to make it happen .
