Hey , guess what? The U . S . Department of Housing and Urban Development ( HUD ) just announced that they have $50 million up for grabs for the Housing Opportunities for Persons With AIDS ( HOPWA ) program . This money is available to local governments , states , and nonprofit organizations through the HOPWA: Housing Interventions ( HINT ) to End the HIV Epidemic program . They believe that having a stable place to live is a game - changer for people with HIV/AIDS , so they want to help out . Projects that get funded need to achieve six objectives , like using the Housing First approach , aligning with local initiatives , improving coordination among housing and service providers , collecting quality data , and ensuring equitable access and cultural humility . They want approaches that are sustainable and effective , so they can continue even after the funded project is done .
