Full Time Fire Apparatus Engineer/EMT
Our Department is Growing! We are looking to hire an additional Fire Apparatus Engineer/EMT to join the staff at the City of Alliance Fire Department.
Monthly Salary Range: $3,957.16 - $5,041.18 Depending on Qualifications/Experience

Candidates for This Position
Do you have at least a Basic EMT certificate and are looking to advance your career? Do you have a desire to become a Paramedic and respond to emergency calls? Do you have experience as a Firefighter and want to get your Firefighter I certificate? If so, you may be the right individual to fill this NEW position at the City of Alliance Fire Department. Selected candidate with Basic EMT certificate will receive paid training to complete Advanced EMT and acquire their Nebraska EMT License and may be eligible for pay increase once certifications obtained. Advanced training and certifications will be taken into consideration regarding starting wages for candidates who already possess EMT license and/or Firefighter I certificate.
The Position
As a first-responder, this individual is integral to the safety of our community. Selected candidate will protect life and property by performing firefighting, emergency aid, hazardous materials, and fire prevention duties. Will also maintain fire equipment, apparatus, and facilities. Will work cooperatively with other first-responders, including law enforcement, medical personnel, volunteer firefighters and new recruits. In this position, you will drive a fire apparatus, ambulance, operate pumps and related equipment; Perform emergency aid activities including administering first aid and other assistance as required; Receive and relay fire calls, operate radio and other communication equipment.
Location and Hours
This position is located at the Alliance Fire Department at 315 Cheyenne Ave. Firefighters work 24 hour shifts to provide round the clock coverage. The department schedules employees to provide the best work-life balance possible, with 3 shifts on per week, and a total of 10 shifts per month (on average) to provide employees with a minimum of 3 shifts off in a row each rotation. This new position will be scheduled in rotation with the other two Fire Apparatus Engineers/EMTs currently on staff.

Wages & Benefits
This position is full-time with full-time benefits and over-time earning potential. Full-time employees earn paid vacation leave, sick leave accrual, 8 paid holidays per year, 3 additional personal holidays per year, medical/dental/vision insurance for self and/or family, life insurance, retirement plan with 13% employer contribution, Flex Spending Account, and Health Savings Account with employer contribution of up to $1,500/year for qualified plan participants.

Candidates Must Have
Graduation from a high school or GED equivalent
Basic EMT certificate
Desired Minimum Qualifications
Two (2) years active service as Firefighter/EMT. If no Firefighter I certificate, Volunteer service will be considered.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Working knowledge of driver safety and first aid; Ability to learn operation of fire suppression and other emergency equipment.
Special Requirements
Must be at least 21 years;
US Citizen;
Must possess valid State driver’s license or able to obtain at time of hire;
No felony convictions;
Be able to read and write English language;
Possess current Basic EMT certificate or higher;
Ability to complete Advanced EMT within one year;
Must successfully pass testing including written Firefighter Exam, background check, and Physical Fitness test;
Ability to work rotating shifts;
Nebraska Firefighter I certificate or demonstrate equivalent working knowledge of firefighting.

UPDATE REGARDING TESTING AND INTERVIEWS: Testing and Interviews TBA. Testing will consist of a written examination, as well as a physical agility test. Candidates who successfully pass the IPMA FF-EL 101 Test and physical agility test will be eligible for interviews. Please see the attached document for physical requirements.
