SHELBY COUNTY , TN – The Shelby County Health Department will observe Sexually Transmitted Disease ( STD ) Awareness Week April 11 - 15 , 2022 . STD Awareness Week is a nationwide health observance designed to raise awareness about sexually transmitted infections and how they impact our lives . It is also an opportunity to ensure people have the tools and knowledge to prevent , test for , and be promptly treated for sexually transmitted infections , also known as STIs .

    , the Shelby County Health Department will offer free STD & HIV screenings for Shelby County residents at the Sexual Health Clinic at 814 Jefferson Avenue from 8:00 am - 2:00 pm . This will be a “
   Fast Track Screening
   ” process only for individuals with no recognized STI symptoms . Those with symptoms should call the Sexual Health Clinic at
   901 - 222 - 9385

   Sexually transmitted infections can cause few or no symptoms . According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention , 1 in 5 people in the U . S . have an STI at any given time . Young people are at particular risk: almost half of all new sexually transmitted infections in 2018 were among people aged 15 to 24 .  
   Shelby County Health Department’s Sexual Health Clinic provides affordable and confidential testing and treatment for sexually transmitted infections by appointment .
