The Town of Sunnyvale will hold a written exam and physical agility test on March 26, 2022 beginning at 9:00 a.m. for the Firefighter/Paramedic position. Check-in for the written exam will begin at 8:30 a.m. at Town Hall located at 127 N. Collins Rd. Sunnyvale, TX 75182. The physical agility test will begin at 1:00 p.m. at the Sunnyvale Fire Department, Station 1 at 404 Tower Place, Sunnyvale, TX 75182.
The written exam will be a fire test based on IFSTA Essentials of Fire-Fighting, 6th edition.

SUMMARY
Under direct supervision, the Firefighter-Paramedic performs various skilled EMS, fire suppression, and prevention activities that are often performed under conditions that require strenuous physical exertion.
The paramedic (only) will work alongside the Firefighter and provide excellent emergency medical care. The ideal candidate will be able to comfort patients; keep accurate records; and cooperate with fire and police officials for the Town of Sunnyvale. If offered the position as a paramedic (only), you must be able to successfully complete a nine-week paid fire training program and successfully complete the State Certification as a Certified Basic Firefighter. If selected as a Firefighter/EMT, you will be required to attend Paramedic School and must successfully acquire the State Paramedic certification by future staffing requirements.

Performs routine and non-routine fire-fighting and EMS skills for different emergent and non-emergent situations and scenarios; correctly uses hoses, nozzles, ladders, extinguishers, bars, hooks, lines, and other equipment for fire suppression and prevention.
Provides fire suppression services and special operations; assists and supports pre-fire planning, fire inspections, fire prevention, public education, hydrant checks, and small engine and tool repair.
Maintains, cleans, and monitors the up-keep of the Fire Department property; conducts tours of the station houses for scout, civic, and other interested groups.
Conducts fire drills in various institutions and commercial establishments; participates in fire drills and attends classes in firefighting, EMS, and related duties.
Inspects commercial and non-commercial buildings for fire safety and compliance; signs citations and gives testimony in court in connection with fire code enforcement activities.
Applies basic knowledge of risk and safety management to tactical situations; serves as a safety officer observing and proactively intervening for the fire company safety; reports unsafe behavior or activities.
Attends training and educational meetings to discuss tactical, safety, and general protocols; ensures all work is up to date on procedures, policies, and techniques.
Attends and participates in various classes and training related to firefighting, emergency medical service, and related duties; ensures company standards are maintained and communicated to the department.
Participates in regular physical fitness activities to maintain physical conditioning; maintains regular and reliable attendance.
Performs exceptional and seamless customer service; shows integrity and a commitment to innovation, efficiency, and fiscally responsible firefighting activity.
Administers emergency medical services to injured persons or other trauma victims; performs skilled lifesaving techniques including CPR and First Aid; performs welfare checks, lift assists, blood pressure checks, life support care, intravenous fluid resuscitation, and patient treatment and transportation.
Performs other duties as assigned or required to enhance the logistical success of the department.
Essential functions above are performed by a firefighter/paramedic.
If offered the position as a paramedic (only), the essential functions performed above will require your assistance. You must be able to successfully complete a nine-week paid fire training program at the Town of Sunnyvale Fire Department to become a Firefighter.
