Energy Market Manager
FUNCTION:
Manage the Greenville Electric Utility System (GEUS) power supply portfolio including Greenville Steam and Engine Plants, power purchase agreements, fuel contracts, congestion revenue rights (CRRs), and energy markets strategies; maintain safe and reliable electric service for GEUS while trying to minimize power supply costs and/or preserve and strengthen the financial position of GEUS; manage personnel, procedures, and departmental budget.
Primary Responsibilities:
1. Develop daily marketing plan/strategies to minimize costs and/or maximize power sales cost savings for GEUS
2. Coordinate with QSE in the scheduling of generating units
3. Develop and execute market strategies, review settlement statements for accuracy, and maintain effective communications regarding GEUS’ preferred operating strategies
4. Manage GEUS’ transactions with third parties including ERCOT, Qualified Scheduling Entities, and other market participants
5. Communicate with Power Plant Manager and plant operators regarding operation schedules, QSE requirements, and regulatory requirements
6. Schedule and manage Pre-Assigned Congestion Revenue Rights (PCRRs) and CRRs to maximize their value
7. Submit outages to QSE and ERCOT on behalf of GEUS Operations
8. Submit compliance documentation for Operations to ERCOT
9. Attend and participate in ERCOT meetings that are relevant to Energy Market Manager responsibilities
10. Communicate with GEUS Accounting department regarding the adequacy of invoices and settlement statements, financial forecasting, and budgeting tools
11. Prepare and perform a detailed review of the monthly Power Supply report for GEUS management and the GEUS Board
12. Develop a departmental budget, implement the approved budget, monitor expenses to ensure they fall within budget, analyze out-of-budget expenses and ensure they are offset in other areas
13. Perform modeling analyses as required to determine operational and transmission constraints and the financial impact on GEUS’ ability to deliver competitively priced power to its customers
14. Perform technical research and provide recommendations for system improvements
15. Provide in-house training to GEUS personnel as necessary to implement effective management of power supply operations
16. Manage Power Supply personnel, including recruitment, assignments, reviews, dismissals, and workforce planning
17. Ensure compliance with approved operations and Human Resources policies and procedures

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
1. Bachelor of Science in Engineering or equivalent with a minimum of eight years experience in power supply administration and electric market operations or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job
2. Excellent written and verbal communication skills
3. Advanced Excel skills
4. Subject Matter Expert in current ERCOT power market operations and protocols
5. Excellent analytical, computational, and problem-solving skills and abilities
6. Sound/justifiable judgment and decision-making skills and abilities
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
1. Supervisory skills are a plus, but not required
2. Plant experience preferred but not required
Salary Range DOQ plus benefits.
