The City of Durango has Been awarded the highest form of recognition in the area for governmental accounting and financial reporting
   The Government Finance Officers Association awarded Durango the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting earlier this month for its Comprehensive Annual Financial Report for the fiscal year of 2020 .  
   Durango City Councilors took time to acknowledge the efforts of the finance department at its last meeting .  
   “What an amazing turnaround that our finance department and staff have made , ” said Councilor Melissa Youssef . “Thank you so much . ”  
    Durango was awarded this certificate after its financial report was judged by and impartial panel . The Government and Finance Officers Association’s panel .  
   “I want to give a huge thanks to the central finance staff , ” said Finance Director Cynthia Sneed . “Everyday in and out they are processing transactions of all different sorts . This is definitely a team effort , and no one person does this by themselves . ” 
    According to the Government and Finance Officers Association cities that are awarded this Certificate of Achievement demonstrate a constructive spirit of full disclosure to clearly communicate the city ' s financial story .   
    This success for Durango City Government and its Finance Department comes after a strong effort to restore trust in the city’s finical accounting following findings of embezzlement by the former finance director in 2019 .
