The City of North Canton, Stark County, Ohio is hiring for the position of Deputy Director of Finance. This exempt position reports to the Director of Finance and will assist in supervising a team of employees in the Finance department. Ideal candidate will have a thorough knowledge of public administration and local government operations; knowledge of public sector labor relations and budget processes; highly skilled in areas of public relations, communications, policy implementation, research, and analysis; ability to provide supervision and direction; ability to manage and coordinate diverse operations in an effective and efficient manner; thorough knowledge of police practices, fire and EMS operations, and general knowledge of water and sewer utility operations.
QUALIFICATIONS A Bachelor degree, from an accredited college or university, with major course work in accounting, finance, public administration, business administration, or a related field is required. A related Master degree and/or Certified Public Finance Officer with a minimum of five (5) years previous experience in governmental finance/administration preferred. Strong leadership and management skills are imperative. An appropriate combination of leadership, management skills, and public sector finance experience in a municipal organization will be considered. Must be bondable and meet all certification and licensure requirements to fulfill the Director role in the absence of the Director of Finance.
This position requires a quality, sound financial background with knowledge, skills and abilities in each of the functional areas of government finance, with particular emphasis on best practices in municipal finance, integrated strategic planning, project management, budgeting and forecasting. The Deputy Director of Finance will demonstrate creative thinking to solve problems, while being committed to a high level of customer service to the public and within the organization. The position will display a positive, collaborative leadership approach and this innovative leader will have excellent presentation skills along with a track record of building strong, positive relationships and partnerships with business and developmental interests, financial service institutions, and rating and regulatory agencies.

The annual salary range is $72,000-$85,000, depending on qualifications and experience. The City offers a competitive benefits program including health, dental and vision insurance options through a PPO or HSA plan, life insurance, along with paid vacation, sick, and personal leave. This position participates in OPERS retirement system. Other employment provisions are covered by Codified Ordinance 155.
