Churchill County Social Services & Public Health and the Sheriff’s Office are hosting a 40 - hour crisis intervention training course May 9 through 13 at the Buckland Room in the new Rafter 3C Arena at the Churchill County fairgrounds .
Crisis Intervention Teams are a pre - booking jail diversion program designed to improve the outcomes of first responder interactions with people with mental illnesses . The course equips first responders and community partners to interact with individuals experiencing a psychiatrics crisis by providing specialized training and creating a community collaboration .
The course runs Monday through Friday from 8 a . m . to 5 p . m . Wednesday , May 11 will be spent visiting local resources followed a trip to the prison in Carson City . Transportation and lunch will be provided on Wednesday .
