Community Development Services Representative
The Village of Western Springs, a community of 13,629 residents and located about 15 miles west of
downtown Chicago, seeks a detail-oriented, organized, customer service focused individual for the
position of Community Development Services Representative in the Community Development
Department.
This position is the Department’s first point of contact (in-person, by phone, or email) for residents,
contractors, and developers, and is expected to project a positive, customer service-oriented outlook and
provide accurate, timely customer responses under all conditions, including challenging situations
involving demanding customers.
This position will guide and support the Village’s permit process from pre-application to completion. This
includes, but is not limited to, coordinating procedures in the permit process, including architectural,
arborist, engineering and in-house reviews; scheduling and processing building inspections; providing
updates to stakeholders; calculating and collecting fees; and responding to inquiries.
In addition, this position will research and process departmental Freedom of Information Act (FOIA)
requests, internal document requests, and public inquiries in a timely manner, as well as update and
maintain data and records in department electronic and other files. The position includes coordination
with other departments of the Village on project tracking, scheduling, payables, and other items. This
position will also complete other administrative tasks including taking minutes for Commission and other
meetings, processing payments, maintaining a contractor registry, and completing other duties as
required.
This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent, though an associate degree is preferred, along
with at least one (1) to two (2) years of progressively responsible administrative experience working in an
office. In addition, this position requires the ability to learn, understand, and explain Village policies and
procedures; learn and use new computer software; make basic mathematical calculations; maintain
confidential information; adapt to shifting priorities; handle difficult or stressful interactions; and the
ability to temporarily work remotely, if necessary. In addition, excellent customer service skills, strong
administrative and organizational skills are needed. Prior related municipal and or permit work
experience is a plus.
This position is generally scheduled 37.5 hours a week, Monday – Friday 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. with some
evening hours as needed. Days and hours of work are subject to change depending on organizational
needs. Employees in this position are required to work in the office, remote work is not typically available
(unless directed by the Village).
The pay-rate for this position is $22.50 - $25.00 per hour depending on qualifications. This position is
eligible for medical, dental, and life insurance as well as IMRF pension benefits. The Village of Western
Springs provides paid holidays and vacation, sick, and personal leave. Employees are eligible to participate
in a tuition reimbursement program, flexible spending account, and/or a 457b plan.
