The City of Charlottetown Emergency Measures team and EMO partners continue to prepare for Hurricane Fiona ' s potential impacts and encourage the public to do the same .
As per the Provincial Department of Social Development and Housing ' s announcement yesterday afternoon , a temporary emergency shelter for people using temporary encampments will be provided at Jack Blanchard Hall ( 7 Pond Street , Charlottetown ) from Thursday , September 22 , to Sunday , September 25 . The temporary emergency shelter will have cot - style beds , bedding , food and water .
Any announcements regarding the City of Charlottetown ' s operations , including the location of Reception Centres , should they be required , will be made through the City ' s social media pages ( Twitter: @ChtownPE and Facebook: @CityofCharlottetown ) , on the City ' s website at

The City ' s essential services are equipped with backup power to provide a continuity of services . The public is encouraged , however , to prepare a 72 - hour emergency kit , which includes items such as a supply of water for between three and seven days , non - perishable food , a crank or battery - powered flashlight and radio , extra batteries , a first aid kit , and more . . Residents are also encouraged to share the location of the emergency kit with everyone in their home or business .
To report a water main break , fire hydrant issues , a sewer backup , or missing utility hole covers , contact the Water and Sewer Utility at 902 - 629 - 4014 during regular business hours . After business hours , contact: 902 - 626 - 2100 .
To report a clogged catch basin , a downed tree or branch or issues with City infrastructure , contact Public Works at 902 - 894 - 5208 during regular business hours ( after business hours , contact: 902 - 629 - 6916 ) . Citizens are responsible for ensuring they can receive updates from emergency personnel , utility crews and the municipality in an emergency . The public is encouraged to have a device that can receive updates without an electricity source , such as a battery or hand crank - powered radio .
