NOTICE OF POSITION VACANCY
TITLE: Summer Camp Counselor (Seasonal/temporary position)
DEPT: Recreation and Parks
SALARY: $13.00 per hour
DATE POSITION AVAILABLE: June 13, 2022 / flexible schedules available
SUMMER CAMP DATES: June 20 – July 29
/ 6 Weeks
(Off on Monday, July 4, 2022)
LOCATION: Lakeview Center at Lake Tomahawk
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
This position is a seasonal employee who reports directly to the Camp Director. The main responsibility of this position is to lead a group of campers in having a fun, safe, and enriching camp experience.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Protects the health, safety, and welfare of all campers
Accompanies campers to all activities
Plans and leads all camp activities with the assistance of other team members and the Camp Director
Supervises campers’ participation in structured and unstructured activities
Facilitates group unity by promoting camper friendships and resolving conflicts fairly
Maintains positive relationships with campers by showing sensitivity to campers’ emotional needs
Implement positive behavior-management techniques with campers
Be a role-model for campers by following all policies and demonstrating enthusiasm, a sense of humor, and self-control
Transports/Drives the campers via the Recreation and Parks 15 passenger van
Helps maintain the organizational structure of the workspace
Maintains an appropriate level of supplies needed for campers (provides information to Camp Director of needed supplies)
Minimum Qualifications:
Applicant must possess a high school diploma or equivalent
Applicant needs prior experience in working with youth; preference will be given to applicants who have previous camp/group/school-work experience
Applicant should display enthusiasm, be adaptable, dependable, and possess an excellent work ethic
Applicant needs to be an effective communicator and listener as well as being self-motivated and energetic
Applicant should be a team player and be able to accept guidance and supervision suggestions
CPR and first aid certifications (these certifications will be offered at no charge prior to the start of camp)
Applicant must commit to working a minimum of three to four weeks; applicant must be able to work 8:00am – 4:00pm or 9:30am – 5:00pm, Monday - Friday
Applicant must have a valid NC driver’s license
Physical Requirements:
This position is light to medium work; requiring the exertion of 10-25 pounds of force occasionally that the employee may need to exert
Work requires climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, grasping, driving; efficient vocal communication and visual acuity are required
Covid 19 Considerations:
Camp Counselors will follow Covid 19 regulations; guidelines will follow NC DHHS and CDC recommendations for summer day camps
If exposed to Covid 19 or feeling Covid 19 symptoms, counselor will alert director immediately
If not feeling well with possible Covid 19 symptoms, counselor will remain home and contact the director; employee will have to provide a negative Covid test to re-enter summer camp
Counselors will communicate with each other and with the director if alerted by possible Covid symptoms with a camper
