HENDERSON , Nev .
    ( April 22 , 2022 ) – The City of Henderson today released its 2022 Sustainability Report Card that highlights its efforts in meeting critical metrics for sustainability and conservation of natural resources .
   “Maintaining the widely acclaimed quality of life we enjoy in Henderson requires our dedicated efforts to ensure our future health and prosperity through protection of our environment and conservation of the natural resources we depend upon , ” said Henderson Mayor Debra March . “I am proud of Henderson’s development and pleased to provide this update on our great city’s progress towards sustainability . ”
   The 2022 Sustainability Report Card details the City of Henderson’s successes in the following key areas:
   Climate and Energy
   
   Henderson municipal operations reduced CO2 emissions from electric purchases by more than 43 percent from 2005 to 2022 .
   
   Reduced community greenhouse gas emissions by 2 . 6 metric tons of CO2 equivalent ( CO2e ) per capita between 2005 and 2019 as the population grew more than 30 percent .
   Development
   
   In 2021 , the Commercial Property Assessed Clean Energy ( C - PACE ) financed its first project for a large mixed - use development . C - PACE promotes reductions in energy consumption and integration of renewable energy infrastructure that reduces emissions and utility costs .
   
   Henderson Fire Station 85 was awarded one Green Globes certification and a U . S . Green Building Council LEED V4 certification for its environmental efficiency features .
   Water Conservation
   
   In 2020 and 2021 , approximately two million square feet of grass were converted through Southern Nevada Water Authority’s Water Smart Landscapes program , saving 118 million gallons of water annually .
   
   The Henderson Community has conserved 435 million gallons of water since 2012 through the Water Smart landscape program .
   Trees and Green Spaces
   
   The City has 68 parks within an estimated 10 - minutes from 67 percent of residents .
   
   The City of Henderson received an average tree equity score of 83 out of 100 by the American Forests Organization .
   Sustainable Consumption and & Community Health
   
   The City has reduced trash generation by almost 400 cubic yards from its buildings and parks and increased recycling by 40 cubic yards .
   
   In 2021 , 160 neighborhood - led , city - supported cleanups resulted in 400 cubic yards of materials removed from private properties .
   Transportation and Mobility
   
   The City deployed an adaptive signal control technology ( ASCT ) pilot project on Eastern Avenue from Sunridge Heights to the 215 Beltway , decreasing travel time by 10 percent .
   
   In 2021 , the RTC enhanced its Boulder Highway Express bus service route to serve the College of Southern Nevada Henderson Campus and the Nevada State College campus .
