The City of Tehachapi will be accepting applications for one (1) position in the City Building Department either as Building Inspector or Chief Building Official. The desired candidate will manage and perform field building inspection and permitting of all building construction within City Limits. Common duties include coordination of building plan review, permit generation and issuance, and physical site building inspection. Applicants should expect daily interface with the community both in-office as well as on-site. This position is responsible for maintaining City building ordinances in compliance with current building codes. Furthermore, the position includes periodic code enforcement assistance. Duties may include identifying and/or responding to code violation related issues, investigating situational details, and resolving complaints. This will regularly result in complex and sensitive customer service issues. Organized documentation and records keeping are essential daily duties.
Candidates interested in the position of Building Inspector must have a Residential Inspector Certification from the International Code Council (ICC) and a minimum of two (2) years relevant building inspection work experience. Experience in code enforcement and/or Spanish language skills are desirable.
Candidates interested in the position of Chief Building Official must have a Certified Building Official (CBO) Certification from the International Code Council (ICC) and a minimum of five (5) years relevant building inspection work experience or some combination of experience and training that is likely to provide the required knowledge and abilities to perform at a CBO level.
Building Inspector Salary:
$4,110-$6,441 per month, plus benefit package, which includes health, dental, vision, life, and retirement. Starting salary will depend on qualifications.
Chief Building Official Salary:
$5,092-$7,983 per month, plus benefit package, which includes health, dental, vision, life, and retirement. Starting salary will depend on qualifications.
