   Avondale installs new solar kiosks in the city
   The City of Avondale recently installed pedestrian - friendly digital kiosks in the city at The BLVD adjacent to the American Sports Center; in Old Town in front of Avondale Sam Garcia Library , and at Festival Fields Park .  The new 100% solar - powered signs , made by Soofa , provide information about local news and events in high visibility areas around the City .      
   Soofa signs are being used by smart cities coast to coast to keep the public informed of happenings in the city .   Avondale is the first city in Arizona to use these innovative signs .
   “Use of the new kiosks is yet another commitment to providing a source of information to residents and visitors to the city , and to showcase the ways in which Avondale , as Digital Cities award winner , is implementing smart and sustainable technology , ” said Jeff Scheetz , Chief Information Officer for Avondale .  
   The signs detect foot traffic , providing insight into the use of public spaces . They feature a cloud - based content management system which makes it easy for the City to provide valuable news in real - time . The signs were funded through multiple departments in a collaborative effort to enhance technology and increase citizen outreach .   Ultimately , ad space on the signs may generate additional funding to support additional displays to deploy in the city .
   The colorful Soofa signs feature customized vinyl wrap artwork , designed in - house by Avondale’s Marketing & Public Relations Department . “In addition to being functional , we strived to make each kiosk also serve as a work of art , with branding customized to each of the specific area for which the sign is located , ” said Pier Simeri , Avondale’s Marketing director . She added that the new Soofa signs also complement recent aesthetic enhancement along Avondale streetscapes , such as street banners along key corridors , and new digital marquees on Avondale Boulevard .
