Responsible advanced bookkeeping position involved in preparing and maintaining Town fiscal records, reports and accounts including, but not limited to, the General Fund, enterprise funds, revenue and expense accounts, general ledger and subsidiary utility accounts, payroll, employee records and files, and cash balances among others. The nature of the duties requires that the person in this position must be able to work under the pressures of financial and accounting deadlines with a high level of efficiency. Must be able to remain calm, think clearly and handle stressful situations in a professional manner. Work requires the use of considerable independent judgment and initiative within established guidelines and Town policies and procedures. Essential functions of the job include the following:
Compiles payroll data such as hours worked, taxes, insurance, and union dues to be withheld, and employee identification number, from time sheets and other records; takes appropriate action to correct any errors to ensure accuracy of payroll; prepares and issues paychecks.
Prepares periodic reports. Assists in the preparation of the Annual Report and other State or Federal reports; performs periodic financial studies and analyses, as assigned.
Makes journal entries to balance and close monthly books in general ledger, revenue and expense accounts; reconciles general ledger and subsidiary utility accounts.
Inputs budgetary data into the financial accounting system.
Posts entries and reconciles general ledger to various expenditure and payroll reports.
Composes, types, and edits a variety of correspondence, reports, memoranda, and other material requiring judgment as to content, accuracy, and completeness. 10.Maintains position-related forms and records.
Maintains a daily cash balance and balances cash on hand against receipts; prepares and balances deposits; drives to bank to make deposits.
Demonstrates thorough knowledge of and adheres to all established Department and Town policies and procedures.
Performs all duties in conformance with established and appropriate safety and security standards as well as Town policies and procedures.
Other duties as assigned.
