Ushering in summer and the end of the school year , the City of La Vergne parks and recreation department is preparing for the annual Block Party at Veterans Memorial Park this weekend .  
   The free event is scheduled for May 7 from 5:00 p . m . to 8:00 p . m . There will be food trucks , vendors , music and activities for the whole family . Staff is taking extra measures to make sure that vendors are properly socially distanced .  
   To mark the 50
   th
    anniversary , the grand prize for the annual cornhole tournament is an all - weather set of cornhole boards featuring the City’s 50
   th
    anniversary logo . Teams will compete in round robin play to a single - elimination bracket . There is a limit of 50 team slots available . Teams are encouraged to sign up online but walk - ups are welcome if spaces are still available . The cost to register is $20 .
   There will also be a free Movie in the Park to wrap up Saturday’s event . The screening of Clifford the Big Red Dog will begin at the park at 8:00 p . m .
