   National Night Out is an annual community - building campaign that promotes strong police - community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer , more caring places to live and work . Together , we are making that happen . From time to time , neighbors throughout Kearney and across the nation are asked to turn on their front porch lights and spend the evening outside with neighbors and law enforcement . Along with the traditional outside lights , most communities celebrate National Night Out by hosting block parties , and other various community events with safety demonstrations , youth events , visits from emergency personnel , exhibits and more .  
   Vehicle and equipment will be on display from Kearney Police Department , Kearney Volunteer Fire Department , CHI/Good Samaritan Hospital , Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office , Nebraska State Patrol , and UNK Police Department .  
   National Night Out is nationally sponsored by NATW , Ring , Starbucks , Associa , FirstNet , Academy Sports & Outdoors , REELZ and co - sponsored locally by the Kearney Police Department , Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office , Nebraska State Patrol , UNK Police , Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association , Kearney Friends of Law Enforcement , Kearney Chamber of Commerce , Kearney Volunteer Fire Department , Good Samaritan Hospital and RockIT Event Pros and local service organizations .
